Entry Procedures

Before Departure to Bangladesh
Passport
Foreign nationals require a valid passport to enter Bangladesh. Recognised alternatives are limited to an Identity Certificate; a Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations or a UN-affiliated body; and a Continuous Discharge Certificate or Seaman Book issued by a country Bangladesh recognises, where the holder is travelling on duty to join or repatriate from a vessel.
Visa
A visa is generally required. Exemptions fall under two headings — standing arrangements that grant visa-free entry to nationals of specific countries, and visa-on-arrival for short tourist stays where the visitor holds a confirmed return or onward ticket. Because eligibility is periodically revised by the Government of Bangladesh, Aeronyx confirms each traveller&apos:s current entitlement before dispatch.
Prior Clearance Categories
Missionaries, social workers, and any foreign national taking up employment in Bangladesh — paid or unpaid — must obtain their visa in advance together with the sector-specific clearance their role requires.
On Arrival at the Port of Entry
Embarkation / Disembarkation-cum-Health Card
Every foreign national completes this card on entry. It captures intended address(es) in Bangladesh, purpose of visit, proposed length of stay and places to be visited (with approximate dates), passport number, and place and date of passport issue.
Customs Presentation
Passengers and crew present themselves and all baggage in person to Customs officers. A currency declaration form is issued at the declaration counter for any local or foreign currency being carried; the completed form must be kept safe for the duration of the visit.
Unaccompanied Baggage
Baggage arriving separately from the traveller must be declared to the Customs Officer on the prescribed form before the traveller leaves the Customs Hall.
During the Stay
Foreign visitors are not required to register with authorities, and no exit permit is needed for departure by air. Travellers whose plans change and who need to remain in Bangladesh beyond an originally permitted 72-hour hardship admission must have their stay regularised through the office of the Director, Immigration and Passports, at the nearest Regional Passport Office.
On Departure
Travellers present themselves and their baggage to Customs a second time. The currency declaration form completed on arrival is re-submitted, showing the balance of currency still in the traveller$apos;s possession. Restrictions apply to the physical movement of cash into and out of Bangladesh; current thresholds should be confirmed before travel.
Foreign nationals intending to exit Bangladesh by road must obtain a Road Permit in advance from the Director General, Immigration and Passports, Dhaka. Air departures require no equivalent permit.
Special Provisions
72-hour Hardship Admission
A traveller who ordinarily requires a visa but is unable to obtain one owing to unavoidable circumstances may be admitted for up to 72 hours to prevent hardship. Any longer stay must be regularised as noted above.
Crew on Scheduled Services
A flight crew member on a scheduled service may enter on the strength of their crew licence or crew certificate alone — in lieu of a passport or visa — provided all of the following apply: the licence is retained on disembarking; the crew member remains at the arrival airport or in the adjacent city; departure is on the same aircraft or the next scheduled service; and the licence is issued by a country with which Bangladesh has a bilateral agreement in force.
